Pudgy Foot Progress

My actual foot after day three of surgery.
Believe it or not the swelling has gone down since that time.
Looking pretty puffy, eh?
Healing process is amazing IF you have patience.
Did I mention they put a screw in my metatarsophalangeal joint?

Thanks for all your caring comments from yesterdays blog.
My intentions were not to post my foot.
Then I thought maybe it would help someone.
In turn several of you shared experiences that helped me.
I am not sorry I had this surgery.

This is how I spend 20 hours a day.
Foot packed with ice bag.
Tried real ice and couldn't keep up with the demand.
My husband went out for gel packs, they are then tied on to the foot.
Ice for the first 7 days, and maybe the second week as needed for swelling.
I will get the stitches out October 26th, two weeks after surgery.
Can't drive for TWO months.
Bones actually take nearly a year to be totally healed.

This is the big blob of a orthopedic shoe I wear when on crutches.
It is very flat on the bottom, with no arch or give.
Today was first day I was able to gently put my foot down while hobbling with crutches.
That's progress, before I was a one legged walker.
Bunionectomy is the proper name for this surgery.
This is so weird to pronounce.
I ended up with a little more done on this foot than usual.
