Red-winged Blackbird
Edging their way into my bird feeder in backyard.
There is not just one, an entire flock try to sit on the feeder together.
I don't remember seeing them come here before.
A friend gave me some clippings from a plant of hers.
"String of Hearts"
I rooted it in water, then planted it in this small pot.
Finally it is starting to take off.
The leaves are amazing with their heart shaped leaves.

Those are quite striking looking birds aren't they?
I love your plant in the blue pot :)
i bought a beautiful string of hearts, already full grown and it lived about a month. i love them, but i do kill plants.
i wonder if the blackbirds are migrating. they'll be coming here for the winter.
Hi Jane
I loved your Bodega Bay post. My mom is 87 and still gets around wonderfully, but she is slowing down, I can sense it. I'll send you cards and letters when you get old, but that is a long way off. I think of getting older too - I have no children and I'm not close to my brother's kids. I just couldn't lead a normal life and now here I am, thinking of growing old all alone!
I haven't heard a red-wing around here in a long while, I bet they've taken off for the south. I hear them more often than I see them. They're usually sitting on fence posts or telephone wires along roadsides when I'm riding my bike.
Thanks for stopping by to visit me, I love that you do that. I haven't been spending much time on the computer but I have been making jellies and relishes. I love canning, it's one of my favorite activities. It's wonderful to open a jar of relish from the past summer's garden when it's freezing outside. I occasionally post to my blog but not as often as I once did, so thanks for noticing when I do, and saying hello.
Have a fun week Jane.
I didn't know there was red winged black birds - they are beautiful!
You just made me realize my redwinged blackbirds haven't been around for awhile. I don't recall them leaving before. But then they may be out gleaning berries where they can. I started feeding sunflowers again a week ago. So hopefully they will be back soon. Have a wonderful week. Hugs Carrie

I love these! My grandmother used to tell me that the red winged blackbirds arrival means spring is near! I think of her every time I see them.
