BIRD IS THE WORD

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

These two characters frequent the flat feeder open each morning.
Crows are cool.
Being they are so big, they eat huge amounts of feed.
Their routine is scrapping around in seed, stirring it all up, shoving it out to the ground.
It doesn't go to waste because we have about 15 other birds on the ground making a meal.

DOWNY WOODPECKER

The ornithologist I speak of is actually my daughter.
Her passion, and part of her career.
Our daughter is a biology teacher at a college.

She was here over the weekend to attend a play with us.
(our grandson, her nephew was in a play at local theatre, he is 6 years old)

As we were looking outside the window to oodles of birds, she says to me,
"Ma, I think it is time you get serious about identifying your birds with proper names".
She was referring the woodpecker a few days ago that I had to correct later.
She was right, no excuse, I have a book, the internet, and her to run it by.
I often plunge into the posting, because of me being that procrastinator on the run.
Interestingly enough there are three species of woodpeckers that frequent our feeders.
This Downy Woodpecker is a rather new guest.
What a treat for me!

They are all great captures Jane. I don't think I have ever seen a Towhee before. Love the action in the bird bath. They are so fun to watch. Soon it will be mild enough to get my bird bath out. I can't wait. Yes Spring is almost here. Yeah!!!

That would be "good" work. I always hate it when I see the mistake just as I am clicking the mouse!
