Pudgy Foot Progress

My actual foot after day three of surgery.
Believe it or not the swelling has gone down since that time.
Looking pretty puffy, eh?
Healing process is amazing IF you have patience.
Did I mention they put a screw in my metatarsophalangeal joint?

Thanks for all your caring comments from yesterdays blog.
My intentions were not to post my foot.
Then I thought maybe it would help someone.
In turn several of you shared experiences that helped me.
I am not sorry I had this surgery.

This is how I spend 20 hours a day.
Foot packed with ice bag.
Tried real ice and couldn't keep up with the demand.
My husband went out for gel packs, they are then tied on to the foot.
Ice for the first 7 days, and maybe the second week as needed for swelling.
I will get the stitches out October 26th, two weeks after surgery.
Can't drive for TWO months.
Bones actually take nearly a year to be totally healed.

This is the big blob of a orthopedic shoe I wear when on crutches.
It is very flat on the bottom, with no arch or give.
Today was first day I was able to gently put my foot down while hobbling with crutches.
That's progress, before I was a one legged walker.
Bunionectomy is the proper name for this surgery.
This is so weird to pronounce.
I ended up with a little more done on this foot than usual.

TexWisGirl Teresa, thank you.
You bet I am rested, naps, sleeping all night. The doctor said I can walk on it with the magic blobby shoe. BUT there was NO way I could, it hurt too much. This is why I had crutches on hand in case. Everyone is different. I have a pretty high tolarance of pain, so I thought. Pain meds are great! I think next week I may be able to walk without crutches.

oh, what an ordeal! I'm looking at your foot and thinking "she sure has nice toes and pedicure". I'm glad you're getting about a bit by hobbling around, but it's best not to put too much weight on it and ease into it. as you say, the healing process is a long haul. be well soon Janie! and happy weekend to you.

Look at your pretty little toes! I can't imagine sitting with an ice packed foot for all those hours but it will be so worth it in the end. Please don't rush it.

Ms Becky and Miss Jill:
I did go for a spa pedicure before this surgery. Complete with a parrifin wax dip. My feet were soft as a baby when they got done. Thank you.

Michiko:
I do not sleep in that big robot shoe. That is only for walking. I feel like frankenstein when I walk! Sleeping is pretty easy, even with ICE.

Looks very high fashioned, bet that blue shoe is the most expensive shoe you will ever own! Really enjoy the pain meds while you got 'em! Don't be in any hurry to be mobile, it will only make it take longer. Take really good care of yourself and be thankful for any help you get!

Heal well now and I hope wonderfully!

Have a good weekend!

Good foot pictures, BTW!

Oh My goodness. Take care of yourself Janie. I had no idea. I haven't been on my computer much in the last couple of weeks as I have been sick with a inner ear virus, and still not feeling all that good. Hope you heal quicker than expected.

Oh that is quite a lot of swelling. And a screw in your metatarsophalangeal joint eeek.
You will just have to continue taking it easy. Think how lovely your foot will be when it has all settled down. Oh, I thought your toes looked lovely as well :)
