Thursday Thoughts

Eurasian Collared-Dove

Many times before I have claimed how surprising it is,
 that I enjoy watching birds.
Years ago I would not thought that for me.
Now I know it come full circle, nature is a part of life.

Thirty nine years ago I lived in the city.
I never noticed anything except for what I thought,
was a hectic busy life on the road of Los Angeles.
The decision to move was mainly for our two small children.
There are no regrets on moving away from people, friends and family.
Especially knowing what I know now about myself.

The biggest memory for me was lots of cement and grey.
I never knew about blue skies or clean air.
The stillness of quiet, slower paces.
Forests, plants, vivid colors, the sun and the moon.
Seeing animals I had never seen wandering.
From that point I learned how to enjoy the outside world.
I owe that to my husband.
The point of this is later in life a person does a lot of life review.
Today it is all about what I notice around me.

Western Bluebird

Acorn Woodpecker

American Goldfinch

White-breasted Nuthatch

Green Heron

absolutely lovely - images and life's thoughts.

i was the opposite. grew up in the farm fields and woods and streams of Wisconsin. grew up with farm families. then moved to Dallas at age 20. lived in the city for 10 long, painful years until i managed to get back out to 4 acres within a commutable distance. then further out to more acres where we are now. i tried to meld into the city life, and did enjoy some of it. but rural is in my blood. they will have to haul me away on a slab...

I so agree with you and TexWisGirl. When my ex and I moved "to the city" it take me long to keep moving "north" to more rural areas.

Your photos are beautiful, Janie.

every single one of them is extraordinary, the bird and the photos. I can't even pick a favorite, i love them all. and i have done the same thing, i really started to SEE the earth and all its beauty and the wildlife in it in Feb 2002 when i bought my cheap little Kodak Easy Share to take photos of our new dog, Baby... from then to now I see with different eyes and soul and so does hubby

I have to say you have some outstanding bird photographs here which I feel you should place on World Bird Wednesday - http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com
I am finding people in other parts of the country and world really enjoy what we take for granted in our own backyards. Very nice.

Hi Janie
I have always lived in the country
both in England and in Portugal.
Some city people never adapt to
country life,I guess it requires a
certain kind of temprament.

I have been visiting your posts
and your wild life photos are out
standing. It will take me some time to comment, but it will be my pleasure.

Your bird photos are just splendid.
How wonderful to have all these
visiters in your garden.
