Ornaments

I have a variety of ornaments on my Christmas tree.
Some are hand made and some store purchases.
In the last ten years or so my husband would surprise me with a new ornament.
He places it on the tree, and then watches to see how long it takes me to notice.

In 1997 it was a camel because we went to Egypt that year in October.
I have a pickle, pelican, giraffe, mouse carrying a hospice bag, beaded eggs from Mexico, a shark (reminding me of our first cruise), and ornaments from the 40's and 50's. One set in particular are the plastic twirlers.
They twirl on their own with the heat from other lights on the tree.
Those belonged to my husbands Grandmother.
Another was the camera ornament, looks very realistic.
Completed with a chrome lens!
In 2009 he made an ornament of our new home we just purchased.
I will be posting that one for sure soon.

I saved two of the ornaments my children made in school out of peas and construction paper in the 70's. They never miss a year on the tree.
I am very sentimental and don't have the heart to throw them away.

What are your favorite ornaments or decorations to see at Christmas?

Christmas tree ornaments are nearly the most revered items in a home's treasure trove. As you noted, you have a great sentimental attachment to them, as do I towards many I have. One solution I have come up with, since we don't usually have a tree any more, has been to pass on the unbreakable/stuffed ones to my niece and her daughter. I feel like I am passing them on to my family, but I did say she had the option to pass them on herself as I knew she had little investment in them. Living across the country keeps me from knowing if she threw them away or gave them away. I assume she kept every single one (and I have sent many over the last few years). I have the ones I treasure the most. As time goes by, I will part with more. I wonder which ones I will send next year. There is only one box left; most of which I want to keep.

Becky, thanks for sharing. It is sooo endearing of you to send ornaments to your niece and daughter. The distance between you and them in miles is a good thing in the respect that you "won't know" about the outcome of those ornaments. Giving them the option to keep or not. What a great aunt you are! Glad to hear you did keep the most memorable ones for yourself. Gee you could get a little fake tree and get the ornaments in view! I was surprised you and Jim do not have a tree up. Generally I put our tree up for my grandsons. But thinking about it, I put it up for myself too. I like the lights on it especially at night. Thanks so much for sharing your ornament story.

Beautiful christmas ornament Janie. Here we are soon ready to celebrate christmas, and we're looking forward to spend time with family and friends.
Wishing you and your family a merry christmas, and all the best for the new year.
Warm hug from Berit.

Well I sort of flaked out this year on the ornament thing. It wasn't that I didn't think of it, it was that I couldn't think of one appropriate to commemorate this past year. Then I got too involved with those darn scooters that time slipped up on me too fast. The BIG day arrived and then tree came down all before I knew it. Sorry.
