Dolls or Clowns

When I was a child I got this doll for Christmas.
In the 50's these dolls were very popular.
"Tiny Tears"
Five years ago I took photos of her before I decided to sell on Ebay.
Her legs were rotting, her lashes were pulled out (not by me).
I spent many hours of play with this doll.
I have the color version of her printed, framed and hanging in my home.
Some comments I get is that she is a scary looking doll!
Well I think that some clowns are scary.

I think the black and white version is easier on the eye.
You can compare the differences to see her body was yellowing.
A leg fell off at one point.
The woman that bought her, used her body parts for another doll.
I was fine with that, knew I couldn't throw her out.

I got to thinking...
We all fall apart someday.

Yes, a tiny bit scary now, but I'm sure at the time, she was well loved! So smart of you to take a picture to remember. My mom was really a doll lover. She took great care of her dolls, and treated them like her children. I never was into dolls and my mom used to tell me I'd drag them around by their hair and just drop them any old place. (I hope I did better with my real children Ha Ha)

Thanks Karen, and I bet you did just fine with your children. I have met a lot of people in my life that never cared for dolls.

My parents started a doll collection for me. It went on for years. Everyone gave me dolls from wherever they traveled. The collection was a part of my sister's house after I moved to California. Eventually I gave the collection to my niece. Once when I went home to visit, I noticed that the dolls had disappeared. They never told me what happened to them, but the tiered lawyers cabinet they were kept in was full of other things. I wonder if they regret getting rid of them. I do.

Thanks for that story Becky. I know you must of had some great dolls. It is hard letting go of things we had as children. The lashes were PULLED out of this Tiny Tears by my niece. My mom gave her the doll to play with, never asked me if it was ok. I was in my late teens. When I got the doll back and saw the lashes gone I was so upset. It ruined the doll. I always took care of my dolls.

Remi, thank you! That is a nice comment from a guy across the world from me. I will take photos of the other older ones closer to Christmas, when they are out and under the tree.

I'm a huge fan of old dolls. I don't find her scary at all. You can tell she certainly was well loved over the years!

Just stopped by to say hello and catch up on your blog.

I hope all is well!

Hello Jane, well they certainly don't make them like that anymore.
Glad to hear the doll was at least recycled. Closest I ever had to dolls were my startrek figures..

I do like it best in black and white. What a great doll and its so nice that you have a photo to remember her by. I agree - some clown faces are scary!

Yes, scary when photographed like this.

Clowns are ALWAYS scary!

The first doll which meant a lot to me, perhaps the only one that ever did, was called Margaret. She had 'real' hair - which I lovingly brushed until none was left.

I don't know what happened to her in the end.

So you were a Star Trek fan. Do you still have the figures today? I have all the Star War figures from when my son was little. Now his boys (7 & 5) love playing with them when they come over.

Esther, I am sure your doll was well cared for with REAL hair. Dolls and old toys are a great thing to reflect upon. I think I will gather up the other dolls and photo them for the blog! HOWEVER, no clowns. I finally did let my clown go. My kids never liked seeing it and never played with it either.
