Fishhook Cactus

Desert Beauty
Anza Borrego, California
April 2010
Found this Fishhook Cactus last April in Anza Borrego.
Curious about the cactus garden in my yard and how winter will effect it.
I know someone struggling with their barrel cactus currently.
Usually the cactus fair fine in colder months here depending on the rain.
I am going to miss their blooms.
Tomorrow it is expected to be 90 degrees here and will relish that warmth.
Wish my roses would come back the way they are suppose to be for summer.  The fog, the cooler temperatures this summer has taken a toll on plants.
People have reported mold, bugs, and yellow leaves on roses.

I think summer should be seven months before winter.
Maybe this is why the "snow birds" flock to the deserts in winter?

Today marks Autumnal Equinox, the first day of Fall.
Where did summer go?

Hello Jane,
Beautiful cactus. You have a totally different climate where you live, than here. A cactus garden sounds exotic in a norwegians ears.
It's rather cold here this morning, and I wonder every fall, when does the snow come ?
Winter is not my favourite season, but it has it moments...and christmas is one of them:))
Wishing you a great weekend:)

Greetings from Berit.

What a beauty. Thanks also for all your visits and comments.
Its cold way up here in Canada. We have to dress in sweaters already and almost gloves.

Jane, I am thinking that is a perfect cactus to get Dale. When he is waiting for fishing season to start, he can just look at all those fish-hooks and dream. What a great photo. Have never seen that type of cactus. We Cloverdalians have a nice cool morning for our run but the heat is on. Love your photos..you are the best...

Berit, Lisa and Nancy, thanks for your comments. This fishhook is not in my yard. It was north to the desert about 800 miles. But I have seen them here in Northern California. Nancy YES get one for Dale. Perfect for the fisherman. I am thinking of getting a little one too.

Berit the Norwegian and Lisa the Canadian, oh I bet it is cold there!! What are your temperatures?

Autumnal Equinox? Time for Sinbad and I to start thinking about escaping the upcoming winter. We could never survive a Norwegian winter! Egads!
